| Born in 1949 in Los Angeles, Synthia Saint James was inspired by her father's dreams of being an artist to become an artist herself. A self-taught artist, she began her art career in New York City in 1969. Ms. Saint James had her first one woman show in 1977. Synthia Saint James' artwork is instantly recognizable, with her use of vivid colors in clean forms. Widespread appreciation for her work has been enhanced through commissions to create the UNICEF Greeting Card in 1995 and the first Kwanzaa Stamp for the U.S. Postal Service in 1997. Ms. Saint James is also a successful author, having written books of poetry and prose, children's books, and a cookbook. | ![]() Photo by synthiasaintjames.com | |
