Born and raised in California, Lowell Herrero studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts. He worked as a commercial illustrator for many years before deciding in 1970 to begin a career in fine arts. Herrero's work shows pictures of everyday life, ranging from farm scenes to seascapes to playful cats. His works are instantly recognizable due to his unique artistic style.
In 1979 Herrero began producing calendars featuring whales. He switched his focus to cats in 1981 and began a series of cow calendars in 1988. In addition to calendars and prints, Herrero's work is reproduced on notecards, bags, plates, and sculptures. Herrero lives with his wife at his farm and studio in he hills above Napa Valley, California.
