Larry “Poncho" Brown was born in Baltimore in 1961. His art career began when he started a sign business at age 17. He earned a B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art. His work, primarily in acrylic, incorporates Afrocentric themes, ancient Egyptology, and dance. He is the founder and owner of Melanin Graphics, an art publishing company. His charitable efforts include founding "The African American Youth Art Exhibition" and co-founding Artistic Legacy, a non-profit organization that sponsors youth art workshops.
